A select few of our most treasured veteran tree records from of our Shotover Ancient Trees Project have been sent up to the Ancient Tree Forum database and interactive web-map of ancient trees (www.ancient-tree-hunt.org.uk). Once verified by a regional verifier the trees are given statuses and one of our trees is officially in the top class of ‘Ancient’. It’s not the Claw Oak (which is ‘Notable’), it’s not ‘The Shotover Oak’ (which is officially ‘Veteran’), its the Venerable Cherry. It is also with great delight that Dick’s Crab (a Crab Apple) is now officially recognised as a ‘Veteran’. In fact, Dick’s Crab, with its mighty girth of nearly 3 meters was rejected by the computer as being impossibly big for its species! They’ll have to re-write the programme now!
